The Optional Practical Training (OPT) program allows international students who have completed studies in the United States to work in their field of study for a limited period.
Request OPT recommendation from your school's Designated School Official (DSO).
Submit Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization) to USCIS.
Include I-20 with OPT recommendation, passport copies, photos, and application fee.
Wait for your EAD card which grants permission to work in the U.S.
Report any changes in employment to your DSO while on OPT.
